Serving Stallings, NC & Surrounding Areas
Stallings sits between Matthews and Indian Trail, a quiet community of newer family homes. KZ Wood Floors brings the same honest work to every floor here, whether you're in Chestnut Lake or Highgate.
Stallings is one of those smaller Union County towns that's grown quietly over the past couple decades. Most of the homes here are newer builds in family-friendly neighborhoods. We've installed new hardwood, refinished existing floors, and fixed problem spots in homes all over town.
Newer Stallings homes are usually builder-grade engineered hardwood that looks fine for a few years then starts showing its age — worn finishes, squeaky boards, gaps. We either refinish properly or replace with something that'll actually hold up.
StallingsClimate & Hardwood
Stallings is in northwestern Union County with a small portion in Mecklenburg County, making it the first Union County town to span two counties. The climate is the same humid subtropical pattern as the rest of the metro. Hot humid summers, mild winters, EPA-recommended 30-50% indoor RH range. Stallings was incorporated in 1975 and saw rapid post-2001 growth driven by a large annexation along Stevens Mill Road and Lawyers Road that doubled the town overnight. The bulk of the housing stock is from the 2000s onward, meaning floor stock is mostly young enough that initial wear hasn't accumulated yet.
Stallings's young housing stock means standard HVAC management handles humidity control well. Most floors haven't yet reached their first refinish window. The exception is the older small inventory of pre-1975 homes scattered across the original incorporated area, which need the same steady-humidity care any older NC home benefits from.
StallingsHome Eras & Original Floors
Stallings was incorporated on June 24, 1975. The town's first census in 1980 recorded 1,826 residents. By 2024 the population had reached 17,570. Most of that growth came after a 2001 annexation along Stevens Mill Road and Lawyers Road that effectively doubled Stallings overnight. The dominant build era is 2001-present. The town has no traditional historic downtown and no NRHP-listed historic districts. Architectural character is primarily suburban residential with newer subdivisions throughout. Chestnut Oaks is among the named neighborhoods, with craftsman-style homes and a median sale price around $491,750 (as of November 2024). The town's character is post-2001 suburban Union County: fast-growing, commuter-oriented, and almost entirely single-family.
Common original floor types
Engineered hardwood is the dominant original-install spec in Stallings's post-2000 construction. Prefinished oak is most common, typically 5-inch wide plank with 3-4mm wear layer. Solid 3/4-inch red oak shows up in custom builds. Heart pine is essentially absent. LVP is increasingly common in basements and lower levels. The small inventory of pre-1975 homes have older floor stock (varies by individual home).
Different parts of Stallingshave different histories — and different floors. Here's what we typically find in each.
Craftsman-style homes with median sale price around $491,750 (November 2024). Build era post-2001. Floor stock is predominantly prefinished engineered oak with some solid 3/4-inch in higher-end builds.
The corridor where the 2001 annexation effectively doubled the town. Multiple newer subdivisions throughout. Floor stock is engineered hardwood and prefinished oak across the board.
A small inventory of older Stallings homes from before the 1975 incorporation. These pre-date the modern town and exist as scattered older properties on what were originally rural farms. Floor stock varies widely by individual home.
Real questions from Stallings homeowners — answered straight.
Most of the time, yes. 18-year-old prefinished engineered oak with original 3-4mm wear layer typically has 2-3mm left after normal use. We measure during the free estimate. If you have at least 2mm of wear layer, a full sand-and-finish is feasible and extends the floor's life another 10-15 years. Below 2mm we recommend a buff-and-coat (which renews the surface without removing wood) or, for genuinely worn-through boards, replacement.
Two likely causes. (1) HVAC humidification: many newer Stallings homes don't have whole-house humidifiers installed, while older Charlotte homes sometimes have aftermarket humidification added. Without humidification, indoor RH drops below 30% in winter, which is below the EPA recommended range and below the wood's preferred operating zone. (2) Acclimation history: if the original install didn't include enough acclimation time (3-5 days minimum in the actual install space), the wood was at higher moisture content when installed than it is now. The first winter often shows that. A whole-house humidifier addresses both.
Pre-1975 Stallings homes are rare but they're out there as scattered older farmhouses or original residences predating the modern incorporation. Floor stock varies. Some have heart pine, some have early-to-mid-century red oak, some have post-1950s parquet or strip oak. We approach these the same way we do any older home: measure wear thickness first, choose a finish that matches the home's age and the owner's preferences, run a careful sanding sequence.
No. Stallings was the first Union County town to span two counties, and we serve both portions on the same routes and pricing. Some addresses near the Mecklenburg-Union border can be confusing on mailing addresses (some Stallings homes have Indian Trail or Matthews mailing addresses), but our scheduling and pricing don't depend on which county your property is in.
Stallings is about 15 miles east of Charlotte's center and 20-30 minutes via Idlewild Road or US-74 outside of rush hour. We typically batch Stallings projects with Indian Trail and Matthews work to keep travel efficient. The travel doesn't add to project costs or change scheduling.

Stallings in the Wider Metro
Stallings is one of Union County's youngest towns by both incorporation date and median home age. North into Mecklenburg County's Mint Hill and Matthews, the housing mix shifts to a longer span of build eras. East into Indian Trail, the post-2000 commuter-suburb pattern continues. South into Weddington, the housing scale jumps to large-lot estates. Further south, Monroe brings deep historic stock that contrasts with Stallings's almost-entirely-young housing.
We provide hardwood flooring services throughout the greater Charlotte region.
